Now, before we get into the content let’s first talk about what bible journaling is?

So what is bible journaling?

Bible journaling is an exciting way that you can engage with the scriptures. Bible journaling can change the way you spend reading the word of God. Most people that decide to bible journal do it for a couple of reasons:

-The want to better meditate on the word of God.
-The utilize it to better they’re worship time with God.
-They use it to memorize the scriptures.
-The use it to express they’re creative thoughts on the
passages that they’re reading.
-Some bible journal for private devotion and to reflect
on how God moved in they’re life that day ext.

I want to add that there is not one reason that is better than the other, you should bible journal for the reason that makes more sense for you 🙂

Why you should consider bible journaling?

Bible journaling will allow you to slow down when reading the scriptures to reflect on what you’ve just read. Also, if you want to bible journal as a way of private journaling, over time you will be able to look back and see how much you’ve grown and how God’s fulfilled his promises in your life.

5 Simple steps to start bible journaling today:

1). Pray before you begin to read your bible: Before you read the bible I highly recommend you praying for the Holy Spirit to guide you throughout the bible and to allow the words to resonate in your heart. I personally have found praying before reading my bible welcomes the Holy Spirit to shine a light on things he wants to reveal to me.

2). The right atmosphere: In order to make the most out of our bible journaling experience you want to create the right atmosphere. You can do this by hiding your phone, turning off the tv and getting into the most quite place in your house. This will not only improve your bible journaling experience but your overall time with God.

3).The importance of reflection: Sometimes it can be so easy for us to skim through the bible while were reading and yes I’m guilty of this too. However, slowing down while were reading the bible will allow us to really take in the words were reading, you can do this by reflecting on how the verse applies to life today, you can use your concordance to do more research on the subject you’re reading about or if you want to go more of the artistic route you can find a way you can represent those verses using art.

4). What should you write on: You can use a bible, bible journal or notepad to begin bible journaling, or to be honest you can use whatever you have. What you choose to bible journal with is not as important as the action of bible journaling it’self.

For instance, I know people who simply use a regular bible to bible journal, like the example below:

I know other people who invest in a bible journal that comes with an extra space on the side of they’re sidebar that allows them to write notes, journal or be artistic, like the example below:

I even know people like myself who a little terrified of writing in their bibles so they prefer to use a notepad, like the example below:

Either method is perfectly fine, just use the method feels most comfortable for you 🙂

5). The right supplies: The supplies you choose can be very simple or more fancy. I personally go the more simple route I just use my pen, notebook, and bible.
